You give him a name, or a word you live by. He draws it, cuts it, and pulls the first impression himself. It takes about three months.

What happens, and when

字入れ

Start with the draft.

Before committing to a carving, you can commission the drawing alone: the master brushes your name in 和風鳥虫篆 and sends it to you. If you go on to order the seal, what you paid for the draft comes off the price in full.

The request

Tell him what to carve.

Nothing here is a contract. He reads it, then writes back.

In any script. He will advise on the reading.

Optional, and the part he reads most closely.

A 落款 for your own work, a personal mark, a gift.

Shown in proportion. Exact dimensions confirmed before carving.

Master's choice is the usual answer, and the best one.

Swatches are placeholders until the stones are photographed.

A bird, a dragon, something that belongs to you — or leave it to him.

Terms

  • Worldwide tracked shipping. Import duties are the recipient's.
  • Overseas shipping is billed separately.
  • Made to order — about three months from payment.
  • No cancellation once the order is placed.
  • Stones are his: 青田, 寿山, 巴林. Customer-supplied stones are not accepted.
