The terms a commission is made under, stated plainly.
Made to order
Every seal is carved for one person and begins after payment. The lead time is approximately three months, and the studio will tell you if a piece is running longer.
Payment and cancellation
Payment is taken up front. Once an order is placed it cannot be cancelled and any deposit is non-refundable, because the work is unique to you and begins immediately. Nothing is cut until you have approved the master's draft.
Materials
Stones are supplied by the studio: 青田, 寿山, 巴林. Stones supplied by the customer are not accepted. Natural stone varies in colour and figure; no two pieces are identical, and that variation is not a fault.
Shipping and duties
Overseas shipping is billed separately. Import duties and taxes are the recipient's responsibility.
What the seal is not
The seals sold here are artists' seals and personal marks. They are not registered 実印 and must not be relied on as legal signatures or as proof of identity in any jurisdiction.
Copyright
The design of every seal remains the work of Tempoo Uchimura (内村天風), who retains his name and copyright in it. Buying a seal gives you the object and the right to use your own mark; it does not transfer copyright in the carving or in the script.
